Lighthouse Bikes, a community initiative by Sonoma Lighthouse Christian Church, launched in January 2014 as an innovative, project-based mentoring program in partnership with Petaluma City Schools and Mentor Me.
We provide young individuals with the opportunity to design and build their very own Custom Beach Cruiser Bicycles. This experience encourages them to explore new possibilities, unlocking their hidden talents and passions along the way.
Our students embrace the opportunity to learn valuable trade skills while committing to personal growth, academic success, and a brighter future.
This process requires a variety of professional trade skills, including but not limited to:
- Safety training in working environments
- General knowledge for basic use of many hand held tools
- Art
- Math
- Engineering
- Welding
- Sheet Metal Fabrication
- Auto Mechanics
- Carpentry
- Auto Body Surface Preparation
- Automotive Custom Painting Design & Application.
While building a custom beach cruiser bicycle, students gain hands-on trade skills and develop life skills like discipline, teamwork, organization, self-empowerment, accomplishment, proper vocabulary, workplace attire, and strong ethics.
On average, our students invest 150 to 800 hours of focused effort, creating something truly unique as they prepare for a brighter future.
